It's no secret that professional dog trainers use liver as a reward for excellent behavior. But, it's also important to note that pure liver, such as this liver dog treats recipe, is extremely rich... And so this treat should be served sparingly.
Top Dog Liver Training Treat Recipe
1 lb. fresh beef liver, sliced
- Pre-Heat your oven to 275°.
- Slice the liver to 1/8 thin slices.
(Hint: Ask the butcher at your grocery store to do this for you!)
- Line a cookie sheet with either parchment paper or foil for easy clean up, and then lay the liver slices on the cookie sheet in a single layer.
- Bake for 2 hours. This may seem like a long time to bake, but the goal here is to get a chewy liver dog treat, one that will exercise your dog's teeth and gums.
That's it! Now wasn't that easy!
After the dog training treats have cooled, you can then cut up the jerky-type strips into appropriate size treat pieces for your dog.
For most doggie treats, I like to use a silicon baking pan, like this one from Amazon, because it's fun - and makes clean up a breeze!
